In October 2007, Jean-Louis Etienne was appointed Director General of the Oceanographic Institute-Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation.
On 21 February, a new exhibition Polar Ice...for future generations opened at the Monaco Oceanographic Museum. This exhibition presents, in five distinct sections, the different Polar milieus and the differences between them : the food networks ; biodiversity and evolution ; Polar exploration ; the importance and challenges of scientific research in these milieus ; and the impact of the changes now occurring.
In the context of the 4th International Polar Year, Polar Ice...for future generations is much more than just an exhibition, it is a veritable manifesto. By drawing visitors right into the heart of the Polar milieu, with all its richness and fragility as well, the exhibition reveals the hidden side of a world under threat, raising the question : what will remain of our planet for future generations ?
