On April 11, 2002, a Russian helicopter dropped me off at the North Pole aboard the Polar Observer, a cabin specially designed to withstand the polar cold and dodge the forces of moving ice. During 3 months of drifting with the ice pack, I conducted a program of measurements, observations, and sample collection. This book is my logbook in this tiny drifting polar base. It is rich in information on the role of the poles in the course of the world, actors and witnesses of climate change.
