TRANS ANTARCTICA

Editions Robert Laffont

The year 1989 marks the end of the first period of the Antarctic Treaty, which enshrines this icy continent as a “Land of Science and Peace”. Together with the American Will Steger, we decided to mount the international Trans-Antarctica expedition to draw the world’s attention to the future of this virgin territory. There will be six of us: a Russian, a Chinese, a Japanese, an Englishman, an American, and me. With three teams of twelve dogs we will accomplish the greatest crossing of Antarctica, 7 months of expedition, 6300 kilometers. Until 2048, this ice continent is protected from the covetousness of human exploitation.
